Makhana

Makhana are quite nutritious and contain protein, potassium, phosphorus, carbohydrate, fiber, magnesium, iron and zinc.

Makhana by itself has no flavour or taste, but can easily take up any flavour that it is cooked with. Because of all its health benefits and low caloric value, this is a really good snack.

When looking for makhana, they are also known as fox nuts.

Ingredients

  • 1 - 2 Cups of makhana
  • 1/4 Teaspoon of turmeric
  • 1/2 Teaspoon of red chilli powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon of chaat masala
  • A little water for frying
  • Non stick pan or cast iron pan

How To Make

  1. Heat the pan to a high heat
  2. Add the water and the makhana and stir fry until warmed
  3. Push the makhana to the side of the pan, In spare space, add a little more water plus the spices and make into a paste
  4. Coat the makhana with the spices and serve up when nice and crispy
  5. For best results Bharati say to heat for 20 minutes for Ultimate Crispyness!
