Cereals are always sugar coated and full of extra calories you don’t need. This simple home made easy to keep granola mix is the perfect replacement for cereals. You can add whatever whole grain you like, nuts and seeds so its time to get creative.

Ingredients
- 1 Cup of rolled oats, rye flakes, barley flakes or just 3 cups of oatmeal
- 1/4 Cup unhulled sesame seeds
- 1/4 Cup pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds no salt added
- 1/4 Cup walnuts or almonds, coarsely chopped, no salt added
- 2 Tablespoons freshly grated orange zest (organic, as wax, gets added to the orange skin to preserve)
- 1/2 Teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/3 Cup date syrup
- 2 Teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 Cup raisins, currants or dried cherries / dried cranberries
- 1/4 Cup Cracked flaxseeds (grind in a blender on pulse)
How To Make
- Combine the first 6 ingredients and heat in a skillet, Mix the date syrup with a little water to become more like honey consistency. Then add the vanilla and pour over the dry ingredients while stirring.
- To pan-toast: Heat a non-stick pan and stir the combined ingredients, It takes about 5-7 mins. Then stir in the dried fruit and freshly ground flax, and mix for 30 seconds. But I would add the flax and dried fruit separately when you are dishing up.
- To oven-roast: Bake in the oven for 190C / 375F degrees, Bake on a silicone baking sheet, for 25-30 mins Stir in the dried fruit and flax after the granola has browned or just before serving.
- Store in an airtight container.
